رغم الاعمال الميدانية و الدراسات المتعددة التي قامت بها بعض البعثات الاجنبية في مدينة بطوليمايس (طلميثه الان) مثل بعثة جامعة شيکاغو و جمعية الدارسات الليبية البريطانية و بعثة جامعة وارسو الان ان اغلب اعمالها انحصرت داخل اسوار المدينة. تمتد محاجر المدينة على لمسافة 5 کم  بمحاذاة شاطئ المدينة وهي اکبر محاجر مدن اقليم قورينائية   وهو ما طرح عدة تساؤلات عن حجم المدينة و علاقتها بالحکم البطالمة و الذي سميت على اسم احد ملوکها و المراحل التاريخية التي مرت بها . حاولت هذه الدراسة تحديد اهم محاجر المدينة و بعض المقابر التي بنيت او نحتت فيها وعلاقتها بحجم المدينة التي تمتد على مساحة 250 هکتار . 
Despite the field work and the numerous studies carried out by some foreign missions in the city of Ptolemais (Tolmeita now ) such as the mission of the University of Chicago and the Association of Libyan Studies and the mission of the University of Warsaw now that most of its work was confined inside the walls of the city. The city's quarries extend over a distance of 5 km along the coast of the city, the largest quarry in the cities of Cyrenaica , which raised several questions about the size of the city and its relationship to the Ptolemaic rule, which was named after one of its kings and historical stages. This study attempted to identify the most important quarries of the city and some tombs that were built or sculpted in relation to the size of the city, which extends over an area of ​​250 hectares
